Snow Day!

Well, if we still lived in Northern Virgina we wouldn't call it a snow day but we will take what we can get here in South Carolina. They canceled school at 5:00 p.m. before there was the first flake in sight. Molly woke up at 6:30 a.m. to check on the snow and there was a VERY thin layer of snow on the grass. She was dressed and out in the snow while it was still dark. She decided snow made a great breakfast. Lindsey enjoyed the snow a bit less than Lindsey. We no longer have good winter gear and she was frozen to the bone. She was more about hanging out on the couch with snacks and watching the Inauguration.

Lindsey, happier to view the snow from her window
or from the couch.

The house with snow on the roof!

The snow licker.

So happy with the snow.

Mmmmm....tasty snow. She announced she was
having snow for breakfast.

Snow friends.

Lindsey taking a taste of snow.

Off to see friends.

Snuggle Time

Last night, David and I were in the other room and Molly came in and announced that is was Snuggle Time. We all walked into the family room to find blankets, pillows, and books on the couch.

It was so sweet - she had put out books for all of us. She had David's book he is reading, my book, and one of Lindsey's favorite books by Dr. Suess. For an extra special touch, she even had Lindsey's pappy tucked under her book.

My book, Marley and Me

Lindsey's book and pappy.

And Daddy's book, A Drinking Life.

We turned the fireplace on, and each of us were to read on our own for a while. She then announced it was time for the "parents" to read to the kids. A very nice ending to a relaxing weekend from a very thoughtful and sweet little girl!

My Little Nut

It's cold here today...really cold!!!! Lindsey and I were going to run to the fabric store and she wanted to dress herself. Fine. Just DON'T mess up your closet AND put on a long sleeve shirt and pants. Five minutes later Lindsey made her way downstairs in this little number.

After prancing around for a few minutes in her bikini and cardigan, we found some jeans and a shirt and headed off to run our errands. When we got back, I had a few things to do around the house. Lindsey decided (on her own, of course) that she had a few things to do as well like paint her toenails and fingernails. Thankfully, the lovely shade of blue polish was contained to her nails and skin.

And we ended the day with a bath. A bubble bath. Not because I had planned it that way. I walked in to find that she had dumped all the shampoo in the water to get bubbles. Here is my little nut in the tub after a fun day with mom.

Well, at least I thought it was a fun day. I told her I really enjoyed spending the day with her
and her response was "why did I have to be with you all day and not see anyone else?" Gotta love that girl!

Bedtime

Getting the girls down into their own beds goes pretty smoothly each night. Getting Lindsey to stay in her bed through the night is a completely different story. At first she was afraid of the butterflies over her bed so we took those down. Then she said the holes from where the butterflies used to hang were "spooky" so David fixed that problem. With nothing left to complain about, she announced her whole room was making her scared and she needed to sleep with Molly and THEN she'd stay in bed all night. Molly agreed and David has been making a bed for Lindsey in Molly's big stuffed frog for over a week now. They have seemed to really enjoy sharing a room at night although it has NOT kept Lindsey from joining us in our bed most nights.

Since the girls have had fun sharing a room, the decided they wanted to get bunk beds. We told them bunk beds cost a lot of money and that wasn't something we were willing to buy right now. They seemed unphased and decided they would by the bunk beds themselves.

Tonight, when putting them down for bed, this was the conversation between Molly and Lindsey.

Molly: Lindsey, we have GOT to go to the bunk bed store and pick out our bed. And I'm sleeping on the top.

Lindsey: Mawley, that is not really fair to me. I want the top.

Molly: You get up at night and will fall and break your head.

Lindsey: I'll use the ladder.

Molly: Mom, how much is a bunk bed?

Me: Around $700

Molly: O.K. Lindsey, we'll use your money and my money and then we'll buy one.

Lindsey: Mawley, I don't want to buy a bunk bed anymore. I am a saver girl, not a spender girl.

Molly: How am I going to get a bunk bed now? You're the one that has all the money?

Lindsey: Don't be a spender girl. Be a saver girl...(then with her finger pointing at Molly as she spoke)...so don't take any money from your piggybank!!

Wow, who knew such sound financial advice could come from Lindsey. We need at least one saver girl in this house! We'll see what kind of a "sale" Molly comes up with to get money for her bed. As she was VERY disappointed that Lindsey was't game for helping buy the beds any longer.

And as for a good night sleep for me and David with no Lindsey...not counting on it!

Pinky dies....

again! I was less than thrilled to find Pinky, sometimes known as Rainbow fish, died. This time, no switch. Can't keep up this charade - way too much effort. After dinner on Monday night, we broke the news to Molly. As we expected, there were tears. Lots and lots of tears. The fish had to hang around dead a few days in the fish bowl (disgusting) until we could get her buried this afternoon. Lindsey dressed in short-shorts, a princess t-shirt, her bumble bee boots and her winter coat. She played the harmonica and would stop and sing "oh jingle belly to Pinky to walk." Mmmmm, not sure what that was about but Molly seemed please with the music. Molly chose the location and made sure we put the pink rocks and her plant on top of her so she will be easier to spot from her window. No tears through the burial which I was most grateful for. And for now, there hasn't been talk of getting another fish. Glad it hasn't come up, because the answer is a big, fat NO!

A few words about Pinky from Molly-

"This was my second fish the first one Walker gave me for my birthday. Pinky is the fish Lindsey gave me. I loved her so much. One night, Mommy looked at Pinky and took her plant and poked it on Pinky and she didn't move. She could tell Pinky was dead. She was a beta fish. I enjoyed her and she was so pretty and I loved her so much. I buried her by my window so I can see her every morning when I wake up from school. My whole family loved her."
